Stone Tape Theory
A series of audio visual collaborations exploring the idea that a sonic history of a building is recorded within its physical structure. Stone Tape theory is based upon ideas suggested in Charles Babbage’s Ninth Bridgewater Treatise (1837) and later developed in a spooky 1972 television play.
The work takes the form of a number of ‘field recordings’ with accompanying notes and digressions. These soundings will be made on location and then interpreted through technomagical processes by artist Alex Pearl and musician Guy Holford.
